The GR5 on a poster

The GR5 runs down the whole French Alps, from Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean: the Chablais and its pastures, the face of Mont Blanc from Les Houches, the Vanoise, the Maurienne, Briançon, the villages of the Queyras, the Col de Larche, the Mercantour and, after a month, the first olive groves before Nice. The Grande Traversée des Alpes, plain and simple.

On the poster, the line runs north to south with the villages and refuges where you actually slept. Walked it over two summers, only the Vanoise, or finished via the GR52 and Menton rather than Nice? Add, remove and move the stages: the map redraws every time.

Import the GPX files from your watch so the exact track, pass by pass, replaces the approximate line. Your start and finish dates as a subtitle, and the crossing fits on a wall.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a poster of just part of the GR5?

Yes. Keep the stages you walked and remove the others: from Lake Geneva to Chamonix, the Vanoise alone, or Briançon to Nice. Title and subtitle are free text.

I finished via Menton and the GR52, is that possible?

Yes. Replace the last stages with yours, Saint-Dalmas-Valdeblore, Sospel, Menton, or import the GPX track: the map reframes on your finish.

How do I import my GR5 GPX track?

Export each day from Strava, Garmin Connect, Komoot or Visorando as a .gpx file and drop the files into the editor. The tracks chain on the same map, and the total distance is calculated automatically.
